Easing the mobilegeddon panic.
Posted on April 21, 2015
This is a follow-up to this morning’s email about “mobilegeddon”.
It appears that the huge amount of global press has raised questions about what’s really happening here, causing somewhat of a frenzy among website owners and website developers.
In response, Google has put up a page with some answers to most questions at the link below:
Some key-points as they pertain to Seltice Systems LLC clients:
Just because your website may not meet Google’s mobile friendly requirements does NOT mean your website cannot be accessed on mobile devices. Your site CAN be accessed on mobile devices the same as always. This ONLY pertains to search results on mobile devices, which leads me to…
The search results that will be affected are MOBILE searches, and NOT desktop searches. This was finally cleared up in the Google blog post above.
Good news: these changes are PAGE-level, which means if we have already sent you a quote for changing your whole site, we may be able to quote you differently to create a basic front-page update only, which isn’t a complete site re-layout, but just a home page update, and therefore much less extensive.
Thank you for reading. It’s a little scary to see how a single move by Google can cause such a stir. At least they released the updated blog post above so we can get some answers.
Lastly, if we sent you a quote, we can always wait a day, or couple days, before doing anything. It’s very possible more information will come from this event, requiring us to change course even further.
